Metaphor from Tai Chi for schools

Tim, my Tai Chi teacher, instructed us to hold our bodies up straight with our gaze directed straight ahead, so that we might have a wider view of ourselves in relationship to where we stand. He demonstrated how little we see when we look down, seemingly to see where we are going.

I think this is similar to thinking about education. If we view schools simply as places for learning, rather than places for becoming, the view is too small, too restrictive. We need to view schools through a broader lens. When we do this, then children, educators, and parents all work together by becoming better human beings that enjoy growing, integrating, exploring, dialoguing, sharing, thinking. The list is endless. Please join me in becoming by thinking more about how spiritual development supports learning and becoming.
Thanks,
Deb
